A Win-Win Situation:

 By: Dan Sousa

(May 7, 2008) – Heritage High School boys lacrosse coach Jason “Choppy” Burke was stuck on jury duty Tuesday but things got a lot better later in the day. First his Pride defeated Briar Woods, 20-5, in the final game of the AA Dulles District regular season to throw the district into a three-way tie for first with Broad Run and George Mason.

Normally the district picks its two representatives to the Region II tournament by handing an automatic bid to the regular-season title winner and selecting the other team via the tournament. With three teams tied, no automatic bid will be handed out this season and the tournament will decide both reginoal teams. Seeding for the tournament, which starts Thursday with quarterfinal action, was drawn by lot and Heritage drew No. 1 followed by George Mason No. 2 and Broad Run No. 3.

“I swerved all over Sycolin Road when I got the news,” relayed Burke about his team’s good draw.

Lack of Officials Postpones Crucial Dulles District Boys Lacrosse Game

 By: Dan Sousa

(May 6, 2008) – First the lightning a week ago Saturday postponed the Briar Woods vs. Heritage boys lacrosse match and then Monday the two teams were unable to resume the match in the first quarter because of a lack of officials. The Falcons and Pride will try again Tuesday.

A win by Heritage leaves a three-way tie for first with Broad Run and George Mason already clinching a share of the title. If the Pride prevail, then lots will be drawn to determine district tournament seeding and the tournament will determine both teams advancing to regional play. If BW wins, then Broad Run would get the No. 1 seed and a regional bid due to the Spartans win over GM.
