Basketball: Friday Night Scoreboard

Basketball Scoreboard
Friday Dec. 19

Boys Basketball
Dominion 66, Loudoun County 58
The Skinny: Titans improve to 2-0 in Dulles District and drop preseason frontrunner LC to 0-2 in district. DeAndre Albritton and DeAndre Reaves combine for 33 points and Chris Huff adds 15 including four 3-pointers and Steven Smucker goes 8 of 10 from the foul line in fourth quarter to ice the game. Raider Joe Bushrod is the game’s leading scorer with 26, 14 of which came in the final quarter. Dan Sousa was at this game so check back for photos and videos including interviews with Albritton, Reaves and Smucker as well as Titan coach Steve Douglas.

Briar Woods 49, Freedom 47 (OT)
The Skinny: Congratulations to the Falcons who not only capture their first ever Dulles District victory in the school’s 3-plus years history but they do it in style, defeating rival Freedom in overtime. Falcon 5-foot-4 freshman point guard Myles Tate hits the game-winning 3-pointer with 20.2 seconds left in OT to put BW up 48-47. Win lays to rest BW’s 42-game regular-season district losing streak.

Heritage 73, Broad Run 70
The Skinny: Here is how the Dulles District will go this season. Winless Heritage defeats undefeated Broad Run. Any that shouldn’t surprise too many people as there isn’t much seperation in this district from top to bottom.

Fauquier 53, Loudoun Valley 45
The Skinny: Vikes coach Chad Dawson says his team led by a point at the half, 26-25, but Valley couldn’t convert free throws in the second half and fell in this AAA Cedar Run District contest. Vikes play Heritage tonight in a non-district contest.

Potomac Falls 82, Park View 62
The Skinny: The district’s hottest team, PF, rolls to a sixth-straight victory over Sterling neighbor. Second straight big district road win for Panthers who got 22 points each from Kevin Bartnick and Lucas Mihailovich. Greg Woodlief had seven assists and six rebounds for PF. Alysia Deem was at this game so check back for photos and videos.

Woodson 65, Stone Bridge 42
The Skinny: Bulldogs offense sputters against the Cavs with sophomore Nik Brown the only player in double figures with 10 points.

Girls Basketball
Loudoun County 81, Dominion 18
The Skinny: The Raiders sprinted out to a 19-1 lead and never looked back as they won their fifth straight contest. Kendra Holmes had 14 points and 15 rebounds for LC. Alissa Kain scored 18 points and Brittany Batts added 17 for the Raiders.

Freedom 75, Briar Woods 38
The Skinny: Paul Tenorio of the Washington Post reported that Kelsey Buchanan just missed a triple double in this runaway with 13 points, 12 rebounds and nine block shots. Paul covered both game at Briar Woods tonight. LPS’s Alysia Deem was at Briar Woods for the first half of this girls game so check back for photos and videos.

Broad Run 51, Heritage 45
The Skinny: Spartans get a combined 25 points and 16 rebounds from Maggie Andricosky and Chelsea Gantt in this victory. Nicole Sterling scored a game-high 19 and Erika Grabbi added 16 for the Pride but the rest of the team combined for just 10.

Loudoun Valley 50, Fauquier 20
The Skinny: Vikes get 14 each from Jessica Mullen and Kayla Sweet in a AAA Cedar Run District win.

Park View 38, Potomac Falls 25
The Skinny: At least that is what we hear … Patriots defeat Panthers at the very least!

Woodson 51, Stone Bridge 35
The Skinny: Cori Prince leads Bulldogs with nine points in this AAA Liberty District loss.

“Danny Offei is a senior who starts as an outside linebacker, plays prominent roles on special teams, and is a part time slot receiver-runner on offense.  Danny has an inspiring story. In the spring of his freshman year he injured his hip and over the next two years he was not cleared by doctors to play. However he kept working out as much as he was allowed and did what he could for the team after an operation. Finally this summer he was cleared to play. He greatly increased his strength and speed and has been a leader in tackles, has run a short kickoff back for a touchdown, and scored a couple of touchdowns on offense.  He is a young man of great character and has a high GPA. I highly recommend him.”
