Leesburg (Oct. 1, 2006) – The Stone Bridge girls cross country team staked their claim as Loudoun’s top team Saturday with a 10th place showing at the mega-field Oatlands Invitational.
Lake Braddock captured the girls varsity “A” race with 112 points followed by Langley (193), Westfield (226), Brooke Point (234) and University (250) to round out the top five. University senior Amber Riley won the varsity “A” race with a 19:03.37 time on the 5K course.
Stone Bridge showed its depth with five runners all finishing under 21:33: junior Casey Henderson (20:32.65) 41st, senior Monica DuPree (21:18.77) 66th, sophomore Stephanie Paradis (21:28.56) 80th, junior Emily King (21:29.89) 82nd and sophomore Cara Fossum (21:32.78) 83rd.
While it wasn’t evident in any head-to-head racing, but a quartet of local teams had times that were tightly bunched together including Heritage (20th varsity “A” race), Loudoun County (2nd varsity “B” race), Loudoun Valley (3rd varsity “B” race) and Potomac Falls (1st in the junior varsity race).
The Panthers posted the best Loudoun-based time of the day with freshman Christina Lee continuing her fine season with a 20:02.00 in the freshman race.
Other area athletes to run sub-21:00 times were Dominion junior Becky Misanin (20:13.31), Heritage freshman Hannah McLaughlin (20:24.39) and Loudoun County freshman Julie Strange (20:42.59).
Dominion finished 28th in the varsity “A” race. Briar Woods came in 7th in the varsity “B” race with Park View 8th and Broad Run 23rd.
In the junior varsity race Potomac Falls and Stone Bridge finished 1-2. Heritage was 4th followed by Valley 7th, Freedom 9th, County 12th and Broad Run 14th.
Heritage was 2nd in the freshman race with Valley 4th and County 12th.
