Purcellville (Dec. 5, 2006) – Loudoun Valley High School, behind
three firsts from Maura Cotter, edged Loudoun County Monday night in a
gymnastic tri-meet hosted by the Vikings.
Valley finished with 130.15, just ahead of County which had 126.75.
Heritage, missing some gymnasts due to injury and illness, scored 80.55
Cotter finished first on the bars (8.60), floor (8.30) and tied for
first on the vault (8.60) to lead the Vikings. She finished first in
the all around with 33.80, just out-scoring County’s Caitlin
Cavanaugh (33.25) and Katy Bauer (32.95).
Also for Valley, Julia Newbold tied for first on the vault and tied for second on the floor.
Cavanaugh scored 8.90 on the beam for County for a first and she was
in the top three on the bars and in the floor event. Bauer tied for
first ont he vault and was second on the bars and floor.
The Pride were led by Bria Nunley with an 8.2 in the vault. Ariane
Chretien scored7.9 in the vault as well with Akosua Mensah and Devon
Andersen Farmer each scoring 6.5. Nunley had a 6.7 on the beam and
Mensah scored 6.7 on the floor. Chretien (24.35) and Mensah (21.4) had
the top all around scores for Heritage.
