Despite earning four more state cuts to their already 11, the Raiders Swim overall was defeated by Heritage in their third meet of the season last night at Ida Lee pool in Leesburg.

Once again, the duo of Calie Giangi and Meghan Decker were unstoppable in their four individual events of the night.  Everything she touches appears to turn to gold as Calie Giangi swam to her fourth and fifth individual state cuts in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a 1:05.06 and the 500 Yard Freestyle with a 5:49.21.  Meghan Decker won the 100 Freeestyle for the evening with a 59.43 and earned her third individual state cut in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a 2:09.00.

The girls 200 Yard Medley Relay made up of Kaitlyn Fauber (Back), Meghan Decker (******), Calie Giangi (Fly), and Rachel Wigfield (Free) were out-touched for first but came extremely close to earning LCHS’s first relay state cut for the season with a 2:06.66.  Hannah Nelson and Julie Strange made a valiant effort to place in the 200 Yard IM with times of 2:42.55 (H. Nelson) and 2:42.76 (J. Strange).  Rachel Wigfield had an impressive first place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a 29.29 with Margaret Skipp (29.77) and Emily Voreas (30.94) placing third and fourth in this event.  In addition to Calie Giangi’s first place finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle, freshman Julie Strange (6:30.23) finished third and Kaitlyn Fauber (6:30.73) places fourth.  Kaitlyn Fauber was out-touched by seven one hundredths of a second in the 100 Yard Backstroke and earned a 1:11.90 while Rachel Wigfield placed an important 3rd with 1:18.07.  Again, the girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team made up of Calie Giangi, Meghan Decker, Kaitlyn Fauber, and Julie Strange beat out the competition with a 4:16.31 just short of earning that state cut.

Boys – Heritage – 142 points, LCHS – 142 points

Even with a cold, Ryan Loweth proved that the competition was no match for him in the 200 Yard Freestyle which he won with a 1:52.52 earning him his third individual state cut for the season.  Joe Strange continues to have an impressive season as well, taking first in both the 50 Yard Freestyle (23.68) and the 100 Yard Freestyle (54.29).  Joe and Ryan continue to help lead the LCHS relay teams to victory and did so once again in the 200 Yard Free Relay with Justin Zeidman and Matt Ford (1:40.90) and in the 400 Yard Free Relay with Justin Zeidman and Justin Hahn (3:49.74) (These state cut times have been obtained in previous meets during the season).

Though the boys tied Heritage, there were many impressive swims for the night.  In the 200 Yard IM the Raiders placed first, second, and third; Kempsey Clark taking first (2:33.19), Matt Ford placing second (2:40.50), and freshman Nick Cechak finished third (2:49.79).  Justin Zeidman placed third in the 50 Yard Freestyle and later took second place in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a 1:09.95.  Justin Hahn took 4th with a 25.45 in the 50 Yard Freestyle and later on won the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a 1:17.26.  Kevin Young continues to make the 500 Yard Freestyle his event, placing second with a 6:59.00.  In the 100 Yard Backstroke Kempsey Clark took second place with a 1:12.63 and Matt Ford touched third with a 1:15.75.  In the 100 Yard Breaststroke Mike Patania (1:20.64) placed third and Matt Joseph (1:22.83) took fourth with Justin Hahn’s first place.
