Leesburg (Mar. 15, 2007) – The Heritage High School boys lacrosse team opened the 2007 season with a 10-6 victory at Loudoun County Wednesday.
The win doesn’t count in the AA Dulles District standings as this first contest between the Leesburg neighbors is a non-district affair. Last year the Pride dropped an 8-7 overtime decision to the Raiders, but turned the tables when the game counted in the district standings, defeating County 10-8 in the second meeting.
Heritage had a balanced scoring attack with sophomore Russell East (three goals), junior Nick Cadwell (two goals, two assits), junior Chris Rossie (two goals, two assists) and junior Dean Stambules (goal, two assissts) leading the way.
Also for the Pride, Bryan McCarthy had a goal and an assist and Ryan Gallagher scored.
The Raiders got two goals each from Nathan Case and Ryan Kernus, while Travis Wilhoite and Nathan Fletcher each scored.
Heritage’s junior goalie Tyler Barton registered 12 saves in the win. Connor Willingham made eight saves for the Raiders in goal.
