Lansdowne (Aug. 11, 2007) – Broad Run defeated Heritage 332-349 on Friday at the Norman Course at Lansdowne.  It was each team’s first AA Dulles District dual match of the season.  Heritage senior Christian Darden was the low medalist of the match with a 75 while Kevin Yerks led the way for the Spartans with a 76.

Rounding out the Spartan’s 332 was senior Bryan Buckner (82), junior Tyler Campos (86), and sophomore Andrew Londos (88).  The Pride counted scores from senior Billy Janis (87), Stefan Kronenberg (93), and junior Emmitt Roth (94).

“I was happy with the win.  I thought we beat ourselves with course management problems, but it’s a long season and there are a few things we need to get done” said Broad Run coach John Costello. “We’ll work hard at practice and hopefully get ready for the rest of the District at Raspberry Falls. Briar Woods has a great team this year but we’re all in the same boat.”

Heritage coach John Dugger had six players graduated from last season including four of his top five players.

“Our goal was to come out and break 350 so I am pleased” said Dugger. “I knew after loosing all those kids that this year was going to be a rebuilding year.  We have a lot of young players who are learning how important course management is.”

Dugger was also very proud of Darden’s performance,

“That 75 was impressive, especially since he has never even seen this course before. He is a really strong player.”
