Sterling (Sept. 7, 2007) – Heritage coach Carmel Keilty and Potomac Falls coach Linda Lachey-Helms have faced each other many times over almost 20 seasons, but it is hard to imagine their teams being involved in a more entertaining match than Thursday’s AA Dulles District opener won by Heritage, 27-29, 25-23, 26-24, 25-23.

As Lachey-Helms reports, the match simply proved that “Loudoun county is a volleyball powerhouse in the state of Virginia.”

Or in even simpler terms … Keilty’s response to the tense match was “wow!”

Junior Ashley Scott led Heritage with 14 kills and 22 digs. Senior Gaby Galvan added 12 kills. On the defense for the Pride, sophomores Emma McLaughlin and Megan Beckwith both had 18 digs.

Heritage’s senior setter Rebecca Presor notched 32 assists and McLaughlin (12 service points) and senior Melissa McCandless (8 service points) had good nights serving.

For Potomac Falls, freshman Tori Janowski had another all-around evening with 16 kills, 19 assists, 23 digs, nine aces with 11 service points and three blocks. Junior Cat Jones had eight kills and 10 blocks and junior Sara Hibson had seven kills and 15 digs.

Also for the Panthers, junior Kerry Dwyer led in passing and had 27 digs and two aces with 10 service points, and junior Kate Colfelt had six kills, four blocks,  17 digs and an ace with 10 service points. Junior Emma Ukleja had three blocks and two kills and sophomore Nicole Fautuex had three kills, two blocks and 21 assists.

“I was extremely proud of our young team staying focused and aggressive right to the end of every game,” reported Lachey-Helms.

Potomac Falls (0-1, 2-1) travels to Loudoun County next Tuesday, while Heritage (1-0, 3-1) hosts Park View.
