Raiders Capture 5-Team Meet at Heritage

Leesburg (Jan. 10, 2008) –  Katy Bauer, Libby Messina and Jessie Sheehan swept the top three all around spots Wednesday to help Loudoun County capture a gymnastics meet at Heritage High School that featured five AA Dulles District teams.


The Raiders scored 133.650 with host Heritage at 119.375 and Freedom in third (112.375). Park View (102.4) and Dominion (60.575) rounded out the meet.


Bauer set a school record while winning the bars with an 8.8 and her winning 9.1 vault tied a school record. She finished with 35.050 to win the all around.


Messina scored personal beset 9.0 to win the beam and Heritage’s Bria Nunley set a school record by winning the floor with a 9.1.


Loudoun County Notes


Bauer tied a school record in the vault and set a school record on the bars. Messina had a PR on the beam to win and she finished second on the bars.


Sheehan and Liz Asai were tied for fourth on the bars. Asai finished sixth in the all around. Sheehan was also third on the beam with Bauer third.


Sheehan, Asai and Messina went 5-6-7 on the floor.


The Raiders push their record to 14-6 and will compete next Tuesday at Freedom


Heritage Notes


Cora Dodson and Bria Nunley both set school records in the meet Wednesday with Dodson posting an 8.9 vault which placed her fourth and Nunley taking first in the floor with a 9.1.


In the vault, Nunley was also fifth and Anita DiPietro met the qualifying standard for the regionals.


Dodson took sixth on the beam and she tied for third with teammate Brittany Moyer in the floor with Moyer now qualified for regionals.


Dodson finished fifth in all around.


Also for the Pride some “personal bests” were registered before their home fans, including: Kelsea Frueh (beam), DiPietro (beam, floor, vault), Ariane Chretien (all around, floor), Natasha Gloger (floor) and Moyer (floor).


The Pride will compete next Tuesday at Freedom.


Freedom Notes


The Eagles were led by Miranda Roman (sixth vault, third bars) and Lilly Nguyen (sixth vault) and Abby Heimann (fifth beam).


Park View Notes


Linda Poplawski led the Patriots with a second on the vault.


Dominion Notes


Brigitte Thieme-Burdette took fourth place in the all around to lead the Titans. She built her all around showing on a third in the vault, sixth in the bars, and fourth on the beam.
