(Aug. 27, 2008) – Freedom High School edged Broad Run Monday by three strokes at Lansdowne, 168-171, in AA Dulles District dual meet action.
Also Monday, Briar Woods and Loudoun County remain in a dead heat in the district regular-season title race with the Falcons defeating *** View by 21 strokes at Algonkian, 154-175, and the Raiders some 20 strokes better than Potomac Falls, 148-168, at Westpark. In other Dulles play, Heritage earned its first dual meet win with a 166-174 victory over Dominion at Goose Creek.
Freedom 168, Broad Run 171 @ Lansdowne
Ashburn – Alex Choi continued his fine play with a 37 at Lansdowne to lead the Eagles past Broad Run.
Tyler Campos also turned in a 37 for the Spartans but Choi was backed by a 42 from Jason Scrivo, a 44 from Nick Lee and a 45 by Tyler Blake.
The Spartans scoring was rounded out by Tim Sanders (43), Isaac Wharton (45) and Austin Moser (46).
Loudoun County 148, Potomac Falls 168 @ Westpark
Leesburg – The Raiders kept pace with the Falcons in the Dulles District regular-season race with four scores under 40 on Monday at Westpark.
Jon Youst and Andrew Brenneman each shot 36 to lead LC with Brantley Kushner firing 37 and Kevin Cook 39.
Michael Tondi led the Panthers with a 39 followed by Michael Serone (40), Brett Johnson (43) and Scott Trump (47).
Briar Woods 154, Park View 175 @ Algonkian
Sterling – In another show of the Falcon’s team’s depth, the Briar Woods Falcons defeatged Park View by 21 strokes in a nine hole match at Algonquin – 154 to 175. Despite fresh aeration of both fairways and greens, Robbie Mitchell led the Falcons with an even par 36. He was followed by Ethan Ochs at 38 and Jon Howard with a 39. T.J. Bailey closed the scoring four with a 41. Ryan Geckler carded a 44 after being beaned by a wayward shot (medical attention not required, but a nice souvenir, nonetheless). Troy Ioannou finished his very first competitive match at 48.
Shot of the day for BW went to Ethan Ochs with a 4 iron from just over 200 yards on the 6th hole to put him within putting range of an eagle.
Jake Wilton and Sam Ryan each shot 42 for Park View. Josh Carter (45) and Trevor Scales (48) rounded out the Patriots scoring.
