Adidas, working with Joel Franklin at Level2Sports, held it’s inaugural National Lacrosse All American Classic at the Germantown, Maryland, soccerplex this past July (18-20 July). Featured were 26 teams of 25 players each from across the United States that took part in a lacrosse tournament to crown the national champion. These teams featured rising juniors and seniors from the following regional locations: Atlanta, Baltimore Private and Public Schools, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Greensboro, Los Angeles, Long Island, Orlando, Princeton, Rochester, San Francisco, and the Washington DC-Virginia Private and Public Schools.
There were tryouts during the early part of the summer for these teams and players were selected by the team coaches. Three players from the Dulles area were selected to play on the team representing public schools from the Washington, D.C. area and Northern Virginia (named MARVA).
Russell East, a midfielder from Heritage High School in Leesburg, Derek Maltz, an attackman, from Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn, and Austin Underwood, a long stick middie and defenseman from Briar Woods were chosen to respresent Virginia for the MARVA team. It was a great three days of super hot weather and competition, with the Rochester, NY, team emerging as the victor and winning the right to represent the United States against the adidas Canadian Champion.
All players, including the three from the Dulles area, received adidas All American honors in this inaugural event.
