LPS Thursday Noon Quarterback

Sept. 25, 2008

“IT … IT … We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ IT”

This is a rush job folks as the DigitalSports system is going to “sleep” for the next 24 hours as we undergo some behind-the-scenes software changes … So, enjoy and hopefully we will be back up and running before the storm blows out of town!

LPS Power Rankings

1. Stone Bridge (4-0)

Last week: Defeated Loudoun Valley, 64-13

Last week’s Ranking: No. 1

The Skinny: Gosh … we wonder how many points Stone Bridge will score when QB Patrick Thompson finally gets healthy. Honestly, this team has more Natural Resources than Alaska. Future would-be tacklers of Bulldog DL Brian Slay on interceptions (!) will now need GEICO full collision coverage

This Week: vs. McLean (0-4)

The Skinny: Highlanders. Be Afraid. Very, very afraid. May be biggest mismatch since England vs. Falklands Islands.

2. Broad Run (3-0)

Last week: Defeated Brentsville, 53-13

Last Week’s Ranking: No. 2

The Skinny: When the Spartans were just wee lads … they must have had very bad experiences with punts. You see, on offense, they never do punt (hey, doesn’t that upback on 4th-and-5 look like QB Chris Jessop!) and on defense, they like to block punts right and left.

This week: vs. Briar Woods (3-0)

The Skinny: A great Border Battle as these two Ashburn neighbors (part of the Golden Touchodwn Triangle with Stone Bridge, copyright and trademarked by the LPS Monkey, 2008) open Dulles District play with what should be an SRO crowd. Big question: Can BW stop BR around the corners? And Big Question Part Duex … Will a Muddy Track favor Billy “I’ve got a fullback Named Billy, 16 Carries on the Erie Canal” McDonald and the Falcons. And Biggest Question, Part Trey: Will I find a parking spot at BR?

3. Briar Woods (3-0)

Last week: Defeated Hedgesville 57-3

Last Week’s Ranking: No. 3

The Skinny: You just know that score raised eyebrows as BW is a great team but wasn’t seen as a team that could break loose for that many points. Senior defense hasn’t allowed a TD since the first half of the Millbrook season opener.

This week@ Broad Run

The Skinny: Honetly, parking is so bad at Broad Run, that we hear that Carl “Mr. Loudoun” Lukat of the LTM and the LPS Monkey are commuting together (Sportswriters Go Green!) … Rich Sanders of the Fairfax Connection we hear is already sleeping in his car on the campus so he doesn’t miss the kickoff this year!

4. Potomac Falls (3-0)

Last Week: Bye

Last Week’s Ranking: No. 4

The Skinny: It may have been a bye week but the Panther defense accused the PF offense of running the score up in practice this week … people, people, it’s a joke! Unless your from Hedgesville and then, man, it is one long football season!

This week: vs. Heritage (3-0)

The Skinny: Heritage can be a Jekyl-and-Hyde team but Ross Madison is liable to break loose on any play. You know Heritage’s defense has their chin straps on before they even hit Route 7. PF has been more than about the passing game as Michael Baker has been money thus far and the PF defense has been rock solid. This should be a thriller.

5. Heritage (3-0)

Last Week: Bye

Last Week’s Ranking: No. 5

The Skinny: Heritage had a tough game at PF two years ago but returned the favor to the Panthers last year in Leesburg. We think this game is so even that turnovers will be the diference … make’em and see an 0-1 record next to your district mark.

This week: @ Potomac Falls (3-0).

The Skinny: .

6. Park View (1-2)

Last week: bye

Last Week’s Ranking: No. 6

The Skinny: Patriots may just want to go to the No Huddle 24-7 after success in final moments vs. Handley two weeks ago

This week: vs. Loudoun County (2-1)

The Skinny: This is a fun match-up. LC moves to the next level with a win and Park View has a chance to prove that they are more the team that played Handley than the team that played Herndon.

7. Loudoun Valley (0-3)

Last week: Lost to Stone Bridge 64-13

Last Week: No. 7

The Skinny: Hey, scoring 13 points off SB is scoring 13 points off a team that won’t give up many points.

This week’s Ranking: vs. Osbourn Park (2-1)

The Skinny: The Yellow Jackets have only given up two touchdowns all season and their only loss was 3-0 to AAA Division 5 state runner-up Potomac.

8. Loudoun County (2-1)

Last week: bye.

Last Week’s Ranking: No. 8

The Skinny: Curse you Bye week! I had Chase Williams starting in my High School Football Fantasy FootbalL League!

This week: @ Park View

The Skinny: Joe Bushrod has had a nice start to the season throwing to Mike Ayoub but watch out for Chase Williams inside the 20 as he is the go-to target.

9. Freedom (1-2)

Last Week: Lost to King George 36-21

Last Week’s Ranking: 9

The Skinny:
The Eagles were up early but faltered in the second half. A litte like what happened in the season opener.

This Week: @ Dominion (0-3)

The Skinny: Freedom will want that early lead because you know Deandre Reaves, Titans RB, often gets stroner as the night wears on.

10. Dominion (0-3)

Last week: Lost to Tuscarora MD 39-14

Last Week: No. 10

The Skinny: What? They played on Saturday …. Wish it wasn’t our night to give the LPS Monkey a bath

This Week: vs. Freedom (1-2)

The Skinny: There are no “Must Win” games this early in the season … but for Dominion, the Titans need a victory over a Freedom team that went 0-10 last season or risk a downward spiral as the schedule gets tougher.
