(Nov. 3, 2008) – The regional playoffs start this week for girls volleyball and Loudoun will be well represented with four teams — Heritage, Loudoun County, Loudoun Valley and Stone Bridge — competing in three different tournaments for regional titles.
Stone Bridge (14-9) kicks off the action with a home game Monday in the AAA Northern Region first round with a 7 p.m. match-up with Washington-Lee. The Bulldogs are on a roll, having won the Liberty District title last week, and SB has won 11 straight matches, a streak that started Oct. 2.
Loudoun Valley (20-3) hosts Woodbridge Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a AAA Northwest Region quarterfinal. The Vikings won the Cedar Run District regular season but fell to Fauquier last week in the district tournament finals.
Loudoun County (23-1) has a bye in the Region II quarterfinals and will host the winner of Millbrook vs. Fluvanna in Thursday’s semifinal in Leesburg. A win will put LC in the state playoffs for the third straigth season. Last year LC won the state title and the Raiders finished runner-up in AA in 2006.
Heritage (20-4) will travel to Western Albemarle Tuesday for a Region II quarterfinal. The Pride’s only losses this year came to AAA Herndon and three defeats to rival LC.
DigitalSports.com will have coverage all week from these great volleyball playoffs with Dan Sousa following Stone Bridge Monday and then again Tuesday at home if they win. Alysia Deem will be at Loudoun Valley on Tuesday and Dan Sousa will be at Loudoun County on Thursday with Alysia Deem covering Heritage on the road Thursday ….if they win Tuesday.
