Crozet (Nov. 5, 2008) – For the second straight season, Western Albemarle High School is the place where Dulles District volleyball teams postseason dreams end. While it was Broad Run falling on the road in 2007, it was Heritage going down Tuesday night, losing to the Warrios in five sets in the Region II tournament quarterfinals.
Heritage (20-5), the Dulles District co-champion along with Loudoun County, dropped the first set 25-18 but the Pride roared back to take a 2-1 lead with 25-19 and 25-16 victories. The home team then forced a fifth set with a 25-19 win and the Warriors advanced to the semifinals Thursday at Sherando with a 15-12 win the final set.
The young Pride, with two freshman and two sophomores often on the floor at the same time, suffered only five losses on the year, three to defending AA state champion LC, one to AAA Herndon, which has advanced to the Northern Region semifinals and Tuesday’s loss to WA.
Loudoun County will host a semifinal Thursday against the winner of Wednesday’s Fluvanna vs. Millbrook contest.
