Tuesday was a night of extra action as the Loudoun County girls soccer team ended Broad Run’s 29-game winning streak with a scoreless tie in Ashburn. This comes one night after the Broad Run softball team had its 61-game winning streak halted by Stone Bridge. The Spartans bounced back with a dramatic win in extra innings at Loudoun County as Haley Johnson smacked her career first home run over the fence … in the ninth inning for the 3-2 win. Also in softball, Briar Woods, Potomac Falls and Park View all earned shutout wins, as did Stone Bridge and Valley won.
In baseball it was extra innings as Briar Woods beat Heritage in eight, 5-4 and Park View did the same to Dominion, also in eight, 5-4. Loudoun County used a bases-clearing double to break a 1-1 tie to beat BR, 4-1 and PF cruised against Freedom, 11-1. In a bit of a shocker … Stone Bridge fell to Marshall 11-0 a night after beating highly-ranked Chantilly. Valley also fell.
In boys soccer it is a real scramble as all four teams tied at 2-1 going into the night … lost! Heritage (losing to Briar Woods 1-0), Freedom (to PF 2-0), Broad Run (to LC 3-2 after leading 2-0) and Dominion (losing to PV 3-0) all fall to 2-2. PF also moves to 2-2 to make a 5-way tie behind frontrunner Park View, now four points clear of the pack. (5-way is also the best way to have Cincinnati chili by the way … I may be hungry) …
In other girls soccer, Heritage beat BW and PF edged Freedom … the others have not reported yet.
In lax, Stone Bridge swept TJ.
