Potomac Falls 11, Heritage 10

AA Dulles District girls lacrosse semifinals played May 15, 2008

The Panthers survive No.  6 seed Heritage’s upset bid to secure the school’s first ever girls lacrosse Region II tournament bid. First Potomac Falls will face Broad Run in the title game tonight at 6 p.m. at George Mason High School in Falls Church. The Spartans defeated the Panthers 9-6 in the regular season.

Coach Allan Dacanay, the Dulles District Coach of the Year, reports on the victory over the Pride:

It was a very tough game. PF led at half 7-2, but the momentum totally swung over to Heritage in the second half. They were getting to every ground ball first and were attacking hard to goal at every opportunity. I think they were able to tie it up at 9-9. We scored two goals with a few minutes left to make it 11-9, they scored another with less than a minute left to make it 11-10. We were able to gain possession off the draw and hang on to run out the clock.

Scoring for PF:

Katie Baumgardner   4 goals 1 assist  (11 ground ball controls)

Maddy Dannenberg   3 goals 2 assists

Katie Dacanay   1 goal 2 assists  (10 ground ball controls)

Emma Ukleja   1 goal 1 assist

Alex Wassenberg   0 goals 2 assists

Denise Cordary   1 goal 0 assists

Stefani Werner  1 goal 0 assists

Also, Heritage and Loudoun Valley lost their appeals to be placed in the Northern Region, with SB, rather than in the Northwest Region starting in 2009-10.

District placement, however, is not set as the Executive Committee is giving each region until September to finalize district plans within their region. SB is tentatively set for the Liberty District and LV and Heritage are tentatively set for the Cedar Run District.
