Ashburn (July 2, 2007) – Heritage High School’s Jesse Saldana, and rising Loudoun County freshman Leslie Lyford led area teen runners at last weekend’s Twilight Festival 4-miler in Ashburn. The second-year event, washed out in 2006, hosted by Potomac River Running drew nearly 900 participants.
Saldana was third in the 19 and under classification and 15th overall with his 23:12 finish. Andy Lyford of Leesburg finished seventh at 25:24 and Michael Arrowsmith of Ashburn was eighth at 25:27 and Mike Reiss of Sterling was ninth at 25:57.
20-year-old Dustn Whitlow of Ashburn captured the 20-24 age group with a 21:05 followed by Sean Bennett of Leesburg in 22:15.
The young Lyford, just age 13, was second in the women’s under 19 division in 29:41. Ellyn Moulton of Heritage was eithth at 33:00 and Stone Bridge’s Monica Dupree was 10th at 33:17
Megan McMullen of Leesburg was first in the 20-24 group at 29:42.
There were 418 men in the race and 359 women with the age range stretching frmo 9-year-old Will McNichols of Herndon to 76-year-old Charles Day of Potomac Falls.
Another 100 ran in the family one-mile fun run.
