“Thomas transferred to Heritage from Columbus, Ohio in his junior year. He made a smooth transition because of his work ethic, coachability, and great people skills. Last year he started as a DE and this year he starts as an offensive lineman and defensive end. He had a tremendous offseason in improving his speed in the forty by .2 of a second and his strength by being able to squat over 400 lbs. and clean 245 lbs. Thomas is one of our team captains and he always cares about doing a good job. His GPA is between 3.5 and 3.6 and he also plays lacrosse. Thomas is a true leader in the school and on the field”.

Friday Oct. 17 Scoreboard

AA Dulles District

Briar Woods 14, Park View 6
The Skinny: The Briar Woods defense made TD runs by Billy McDonald and Ray Taliaferro stand up. McDonald’s 4-yard plunge in the first quarter gave BW the 7-0 lead but Park View cut it to 7-5 on a Brandon Lee-to-Tommy Sedeski 20-yard TD midway through the second quarter. Lee finished with 162 yards passing on a 11-for-27 night. The Falcons grounded out 191 yards rushing without any back gaining more than Matt Eisenman‘s 45 yards. All told, seven BW  backs carried the ball. PV had the ball at BW’s 11 on their first drive of the game but Falcon J.T. Bailey recovered a fumble to halt the drive. BW then went on a 15-play, 89-yard scoring drive. PV answered right back with an 11-play, 86-yard march. BW’s second scoring drive came on their first possession of the second half, on seven plays for 63 yards. BW’s defense only allowed PV across midfield once in the second half and no closer to the goalline than the 44.

Broad Run 37, Loudoun County 17
The Skinny: T.J. Peeler runs for 249 yards on just seven carries! He had TD runs of 65, 79, 84 and 9 yards. Breon Earl added a 75-yard score. LC led 3-0 heading into the second quarter but the Spartans scored the next 37 points. BR finished with 539 total yards. The Raiders threw 38 times in the defeat with Mike Ayoub catching eight balls for 126 yards and Chase Williams grabbing six for 90. Both players scored on TD passes from Austin Campbell. Spartans improve to 7-0 and 4-0

Heritage 14, Dominion 7
The Skinny: The Pride scored the winning touchdown with 8:22 left in the contest of a 18-yard Brian Roddy-to-Russell East pass. Earlier in the game, Heritage scored on an 11-yard TD pass from Zach Gordon to T.J. McPhaul in the first quarter but Dominion scored with 20 seconds left in the half, on a Trey Baxter-to-Aaron Good 14-yard TD to tie it at 7-7. The Pride defense held Titan back Deandre Reaves to 43 yards on 15 rushes. Ross Madison picked up 143 yards for Heritage on 26 attempts. Dominion, playing before a Homecoming crowd, played turnover free in its effort to upset Heritage.

Potomac Falls 54, Freedom 0
The Skinny: Panthers improve to 7-0 and 4-0 to set up big showdown against Broad Run in Ashburn next week. The Panthers did all the damage in the first half as they scored 34 points in the first quarter alone including two Tarrell Owens interceptions returns for TDs and scoring runs by Michael Baker and Greg Woodlief.

AAA Liberty District

Stone Bridge 35, Madison 0
The Skinny: Bulldogs defense shuts out the Warhawks on the road as Stone Bridge improves to 8-0, 5-0. SB has now won 21 consecutive games. Michael Prince scored three touchdowns in the win, one on a reception from Patrick Thompson and then two on runs, including a 93-yard sprint. Daniel Allen and John Bladel accounted for the other two scores, both on TD throws by Thompson. The Bulldog defense, playing without injured Zach Thompson, rose to the occasion late in the game, stopping Madison from 1st-and-4 on the 9. The Warhawks ran it four straight times and came up inches short. Allen finished with 126 yards on 25 tough carries. Thanks to the big run, Prince finished with 123 yards on four touches. Thompson threw for 197 yards on 14 of 24. Bladel gained 90 yards on six receptions.

Loudoun Valley 27, Culpeper 7
The Skinny: The Vikes earned their first win under new coach Danny McGrath. Chris Music rushed for 206 yards on 31 carries in the win and he scored three touchdowns. LV out-gained Culpeper 317-80 in the victory. The game was tied at 7-7 at the half but the Vikes pulled away in the second half with 20 unanswered points.

Behind the Numbers:

**Briar Woods has scored a total of just 38 points in its last three victories. During that stretch the Falcon D has given up just 20 total points. In seven games, only Broad Run has scored more than 14 points against Briar Woods.
**The 17 points given up by BR Friday was the most this season one game by the Spartans.
**For the last three weeks, Dominion has been a game-tying touchdown away in the fourth quarter but came away with losses to BW, BR and Heritage.
**In four Dulles District games, Freedom has given up 199 points.
**Heritage’s 14 points Friday was 50 points less than the Pride scored the week before against Freedom.
**The LC offense has scored between 14 and 21 points in all seven games this season.
**Three of five PV defeats this season have come by a TD or less.
**The 54-0 PF win Friday was still 14 points shy of their 68-0 win over Hedgesville in Week 2.
**Stone Bridge defeated Langley and Madison in the past two weeks by a combined score of 73-0.
**LV had scored just 26 points while opening up 0-6 but the Vikes had 27 on Friday in the win at Culpeper.

Winchester (Oct. 15, 2008) – Three Loudoun cross country teams got a last chance to tune up Wednesday before next week’s district meets with Briar Woods, Heritage and Loudoun Valley at the Millbrook Cross Country Invitational which was swept by the Clarke County boys and girls.

Heritage placed fourth in both races with Briar Woods fifth in the boys and sixth in the girls. Region II competitors Millbrook and Warren County logged top three finishes in both races.

In the girls race Alexa Kniley of Briar Woods finished sixth with a 20:19.27. Grace Corapi (20:56.02) and Lauren Stephens (20:58.55) both broke 21 minutes to place 11th and 13th.

In the boys race the top local finishers all placed in a group with Billy Calhoun of BW 12th at 17:35.94, Steven Giles of Heritage 13th at 17:38.90, and then Connor Pompilio and Zach Deaton of BW were 15th-16th at 1:40.63 and 17:41.04.

Leesburg (Oct. 16, 2008) – Dullles District athletes used the “home course” to their true advantage Wednesday as six of the seven girls to qualify for the VHSL state girls golf championship were from the Dulles, including winner Tierney Stangohr and three other girls from host Heritage.

A total of 17 girls, from Loudoun to Danville, particiapted in the Zone 3 State Qualifier at River Creek Golf Club. The top seven advance to the Oct. 27-28 girls state tournament at the Williamsburg National Golf Course.

Wednesday’s tournament was open to all female golfers from A, AA, and AAA classifications in Zone 3 out of four state zones .  Stangohr, a senior, won the tournament with an 18-hole score of 78.  However, the final results were based on 14 holes, as play was called because of darkness.  Per VHSL rules, all players were scored through the last hole completed by the final group. The following top seven will travel to Williamsburg to compete for the state title:

The Titans improve to 4-7 and 7-10 while the Patriots dropped to 1-10, 5-13. Alana Mazurowski ran the Dominion offense with 23 assists, setting up Stephanie Lummis (15 kills), Lauren Wong (11 kills) and Cassie Glosner (9 kills). Loudoun County 3, Broad Run 0 Loudoun County volleyball improved to 17-0 (11-0) on the season with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-15) sweep over Broad Run Tuesday night.  The Raiders got contributions from the following: Shaylin O’Connell (8 kills, 7 blocks), Juliane Hanna (8 kills, 5 points), Kerry Sarver (10 assists, 8 points, 3 digs), Rachel Arigo (7 aces, 11 points, 2 kills, 2 blocks), Katie Gloe (12 points, 7 digs, 2 aces), Emily Vandegrift (2 kills, 3 blocks, 3 digs), Rochelle Latka (2 kills, 2 blocks), Robin Marsala (8 assists, 3 digs, 2 kills), Katie Martin (5 assists, 3 points).  The LC Freshman team won 2-0, and the Raider Junior Varsity team came back to win a great match 2-1.  Note: The Raiders return to action this Thursday as they raise money for ****** cancer awareness against Briar Woods. The Panthers improved to 7-4, 13-4 while Freedom dropped to 0-11, 2-15. By Alysia Deem LoudounPrepSports.com Multimedia Content Manager Ashburn (Oct. 15, 1008) – Midway through last night’s AA Dulles District volleyball match at Briar Woods High School, second-place Heritage found itself trailing 2-0 in sets and struggling in the third frame. Pride coach Carmel Keilty implored her team during a timeout to step up their game and that is exacly what Heritage did as the Pride roared back for a thrilling 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 9-15 win. For Heritage (10-1, 16-1) earlier in the season needed five sets to dispatch the up-and-coming Briar Woods (6-5, 10-5) team. The Pride still have regular-season title hopes alive as they finish on Oct. 23 by hosting undefeated Loudoun County (11-0, 17-0) but first they must host Freedom Thursday and Dominion next Tuesday. Briar Woods is one game back of Potomac Falls for the No. 3 seed in the district tournament and faces the powerhouse Raiders Thursday in Leesburg and then a non-district match with Handley before finishing at Park View next Tuesday and then hosting PF in a nice end-of-the-regular-season-showdown on Oct. 23. Heritage’s hitters had a big night with Ashley Scott (20 kills), Emma LeMaitre (18 kills) and Lian Bernett (11 kills) combining for 49 kills. Pride freshman setter, Stephanie Yokoyama worked her way to 51 assists in the win.
