Basketball: Friday Night Scoreboard

Check back at midnight as the round-up is coming … here the scores we have so far!

LPS Friday Night Basketball Scoreboard

Boys Basketball
Loudoun County 60, Briar Woods 46

The Skinny: The Raiders snapped a five-game losing streak with this Dulles District win. The Falcons jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the 1st quarter, but went cold the rest of the half, scoring only 8 more points until halftime. Joe Bushrod hit three consecutive 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 16 points before fouling out. Tim McLister added 15 for LC. BW shot just 2 of 23 from the 3-point line while LC hit eight treys (seven combined from Mclister and Bushrod). Myles Tate, despite foul problems, led BW with 15 points.
Park View 88, Broad Run 84
The Skinny: Marcus Freeman scores 31 points, seven assists and five 3-pointers as the Patriots out-gun the Spartans in double overtime to win the highest-scoring district game of the season. The Pats had three other players in double digits including Jordan Owens (20), Josh Jones (14) and Kenny Smith (12). Both teams are now tied at 3-2 in the Dulles District, two games behind Dominion in the loss column. The game was tied at 75-75 at the end of regulation after PV made a fourth quarter comeback, erasing Broad Run’s 60-51 lead heading into that quarter. It was tied 78-78 after a low-scoring first overtime and then PV put in 10 points in the second extra frame to win the contest.
Dominion 58, Potomac Falls 52
The Skinny: It was standing room only at the Panther Pit Friday as Dominion won for the first time in school history on their rivals home court. DeAndre Albritton scored a game-high 26 points as the Titans improved to 4-0 in mathc-up of Dulles District unbeatens. Greg Smucker scored all of his 12 points in the second half and Sean Ashton had some huge rebounds for the Titans. Dominion led most of the game until PF made a furious comeback at the end of the third quarter to take a 47-43 lead going into the fourth. The Titans clamped down defensively, allowing only five points in the final quarter for the win. Kevin Bartnick led the Panthers with 18 points. Dan Sousa will have a complete story including photos and videos from this contest.

Heritage 68, Freedom 63

The Skinny: The Pride were led by Ross Alcorn with 21 points, including six 3-pointers, and he took two charges in the win. The Pride’s scoring was evenly distributed with three other players in double figures: Mo Berchie (12), Stephen Shockley (14) and Elijah Calhoun (13). Freedom was led by Ron Campbell with 15, Kendall Jackson with 14 and Brian Orr scored 13. With the win, the Pride climb into a 3-way tie for third place in the Dulles District with a 3-2 league mark.

Loudoun Valley 87, Culpeper 58

The Skinny: Freshmen John Yoxthimer led the Vikes to this Cedar Run District win with 17 points, five rebounds, and 4 assists. Also for Valley: Connor Trombly scored 15 points and James Hemphill added 11 points while Django DeGree scored 10. Senior point guard Drew MacMahon registered 11 assists. The Vikes host Osbourn Saturday in a make-up contest.

Marshall 72, Stone Bridge 57

The Skinny: The Bulldogs shocked Langley on Thursday night with a 68-63 victory and earlier in the week defeated Madison but SB couldn’t make it three straight Liberty District wins as they fall on the road to move to 3-2 in district. SB had to play without sophomore Nik Brown, who was sporting a cast Friday after injuring his arm late against the Saxons on Thursday and senior center Brian Slay who was away on a recruiting trip. The Bulldogs were within three going into the final quarter before Marshall pulled away. Nate Ingersoll led SB with 15 points followed by Richie Berry with 12 and Michael Prince scored 10.

Girls Basketball
Loudoun County 72, Briar Woods 41

The Skinny:The Raiders earned their 8th win with a total team effort as all 11 players contributed in the win with four finishing in double figures. Leading the way in scoring was junior Kendra Holmes and freshman Erica Linnemann. Each finished with 14 points while Holmes grabbed 10 rebounds and Linnemann dished out four assists. LC sophomore Brittany Batts finished with 11 points and junior Alissa Kain had 10 points and seven rebounds. Falcon Kim Bell had a game-high 22 points. The win sets up a showdown for first place in the Dulles District as the Raiders travel to Freedom Monday night.
Broad Run 55, Park View 37

The Skinny: Chelsea Gantt scored 17 points with seven rebounds and Maggie Andricosky added 12 points and seven rebounds and Caitlin Hunter finished with 11 points and nine rebounds as the Spartans evened their district (2-2) and season records (6-6). Karita Brown led Park View with 17 points.
Potomac Falls 50, Dominion 18

The Skinny: It was a slow start to this contest with PF leading only 5-2 after the first quarter but the Panthers finished strong, especially in the final quarter, out-scoring the Titans, 15-2, for the win.  Jasmin Jefferies finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds and Jesika Howard had five assists and five steals for PF while Raven Short added 12 points.
Freedom 57, Heritage 29

The Skinny: The Eagles win sets up the big contest Monday in South Riding as Freedom will host LC with both teams sporting identical 5-0, 10-2 records. Kelsey Buchanan had 13 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots for Freedom while Meixandra Porter scored 17 points with seven rebounds and five assists, and Dionna Scott added 17 points with seven rebounds and four assists.
Loudoun Valley 55, Culpeper 34

The Skinny: Jessica Mullen scored 22 points to lead the Vikes to victory in this Cedar Run District game. Valley coach Jen Piccolomini missed her third straight game with an illness but says she will be able to return next week.
Stone Bridge 48, Marshall 34

The Skinny: Sophomore Cori Prince led the Bulldogs with 11 and senior Courtney Bryant added 10 as SB snapped a 3-game Liberty District losing streak. Marshall was led by Carlie Zirkle with 11 points.
