Despite earning four more state cuts to their already 11, the Raiders Swim overall was defeated by Heritage in their third meet of the season last night at Ida Lee pool in Leesburg.
Once again, the duo of Calie Giangi and Meghan Decker were unstoppable in their four individual events of the night. Everything she touches appears to turn to gold as Calie Giangi swam to her fourth and fifth individual state cuts in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a 1:05.06 and the 500 Yard Freestyle with a 5:49.21. Meghan Decker won the 100 Freeestyle for the evening with a 59.43 and earned her third individual state cut in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a 2:09.00.
The girls 200 Yard Medley Relay made up of Kaitlyn Fauber (Back), Meghan Decker (******), Calie Giangi (Fly), and Rachel Wigfield (Free) were out-touched for first but came extremely close to earning LCHS’s first relay state cut for the season with a 2:06.66. Hannah Nelson and Julie Strange made a valiant effort to place in the 200 Yard IM with times of 2:42.55 (H. Nelson) and 2:42.76 (J. Strange). Rachel Wigfield had an impressive first place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a 29.29 with Margaret Skipp (29.77) and Emily Voreas (30.94) placing third and fourth in this event. Again, the girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team made up of Calie Giangi, Meghan Decker, Kaitlyn Fauber, and Julie Strange beat out the competition with a 4:16.31 just short of earning that state cut.
Boys – Heritage – 142 points, LCHS – 142 points
Even with a cold, Ryan Loweth proved that the competition was no match for him in the 200 Yard Freestyle which he won with a 1:52.52 earning him his third individual state cut for the season. Joe Strange continues to have an impressive season as well, taking first in both the 50 Yard Freestyle (23.68) and the 100 Yard Freestyle (54.29).
